The best way to get your viewpoint or letter in on a specific date is to submit early. We’re happy to consider any request, however we generally schedule the section 2-3 weeks in advance and only have space for content on Thursdays and Sundays. Can my viewpoint or letter run in print on a certain date? Our process involves multiple staff members to ensure no one individual's implicit or explicit bias impacts what appears in the section. We encourage all viewpoints because we value community discourse above all things. Will you publish my opinion even if you don't agree with it? Local authors and topics will always be prioritized.

What are the basic standards for letters and viewpoints?Īll opinion content will be disqualified if it includes libel, personal attacks, racism, misogyny, homophobic/transphobic remarks, excessive profanity or inaccuracies. We do not print open letters to other parties, political pieces or anonymous content in the opinion section, and we reserve the right to edit all guest content for clarity and space, while always striving to maintain the author's original intent. People with expertise will be given priority on a topic however, members of the general public will also have their opinions included as long as they meet our basic standards and there is no conflict of interest. We encourage our readers to write on any topic that interests them however, the LSJ will prioritize local and timely topics that are likely to have more of an impact on people in Greater Lansing.
